Genetics counseling Since 1977, the Institute of Genetics and Fetal Medicine has been providing genetic consultations in variety of indications. Co-operation with individual clinical workplaces and general practitioners within our region has been extensive and always at a high level. For partnership couples with reproduction problems, families with handicapped offsprings with familiar inborn defects or hereditary diseases and genetically risky pregnant women, we have been providing, besides identifying genetic risks, the whole range of diagnostic examinations, which are described in detail further on. Determination of hereditary syndrome diagnosis is often very demanding and utilization of computer dysmorphological databases is an absolute necessity. Our aim is an individual and entirely non-directive approach to every patient for whom the genetic examination is indicated. An adequate time period for individual genetic consultations which are conducted by certified genetics doctors and possibly also a support of a clinical psychologist is a necessary condition for every examination. Birth of a healthy child is the main objective of our work.
